Culture Shock The City Mourns: How Young Dolph’s Death Affected The Mental Health of Memphians

Memphis- a city of culture that defines its own norms. From our lingo to how we dress on the daily, Memphis is a beloved city to many including those who do not reside here. In the recent weeks Memphis had experienced a culture shock that stunned many and caused the city to go into rage. Yet why? The city of Memphis experienced a culture shock, one that tampered with our norms within our limits forever.

On November 17th, 2021 around 1p.m the regular Memphian will be preparing to visit a lounge to have a Wine Wednesday, or even shopping for food to prepare for the weekend-in this instance Thanksgiving. The city was also use to the Turkey Give Away that Young Dolph does every holiday through the MAM center. If you are a Memphian, what we experienced on this day was like no other. Memphis has two top rappers in the game that we adored dearly, even hearing our music while visiting other cities made us feel PROUD as Memphians. Yet when the news reported that someone was gunned down at a cookie shop, the world for Memphians stopped when it was pronounced to be rapper Young Dolph. Why? Because it was not normal.

Going to a cookie shop is normal, going to buy new shoes is normal, driving down Elvis Presley in a race car even if you don’t have one is normal. Yet not hearing a loud “ITS DOLPH,” ever again in person will never be normal to Memphians. We as a city will be scared forever, the news was traumatizing and affected everyone around us.

Memphis, Music & Culture

The word “Mane” may linger through your head on a constant repeat when you think of Memphis, even Adolph’s nick name was “Main Main.” Not only that the lingo is incorporated into our rappers music. Music in Memphis has been a tourist attraction since the Memphis Blues was established on the lovely Beale street. Since Memphis is known to be a low poverty city, Memphians are more protective or what’s theirs, and the culture was the most genuine thing the city held. The reason why so many are sad and mourning the loss of rapper Young Dolph is because he was a big part of our culture. Even those who never meet him cried tears of pain. It was almost like, the lights on the Memphis bridge were turned off. That’s how much the city has cried.

What Is A Culture Shock?

A culture shock is moving on and adjusting to a place, thing or language outside of your culture. Young Dolph created a culture for Memphis that followed the hustle that a lot of Memphians do on the daily. Yet his music changed the culture for the better. It taught Memphis to be confident in their jobs by him saying,” whatever you do just make sho you get paid.” It taught Memphians not to be afraid of where they come from and to give back to the community. It taught Memphis to be true to themselves in the midst of violence and misunderstanding. Young Dolph gave Memphians the “FACTS” that needed to be herd by Memphians and helped children who had parents through drug epidemics become great as well as be proud of their past, for it makes them who they are. He taught Memphians that being from the streets makes you high classed, through “High Class Street Music.” We as Memphians realized, that everything about his music, made us love who we are. The reason why the passing of Adolph Thornton affected so many Memphians emotionally is because we loss a piece of our culture….and the culture of Memphis gives us hope. We will never experience another culture like Adolph Thornton Jr. Whom people listened to just to get through the days of being a Memphian. This is how the shock affected the brain of the city…this diminished our norms and the chaos came from trying to find that balance between a “normal,” we will never have again. Yet, we must move forward for greatness will always live through us. The normal may have vanished, but the culture will always be here. Protected by us.

Rap In Peace…to the King Of Memphis. You will be truly missed. God bless you, your family and everything else that you have touched.

CEO Celia Newman & Memphis Grizzlies Youth Basketball Program Coordinator

You Are A Champion

Lady Tigers Win 2021 Fall Season!

Congrats to the Lady Tigers for winning the She Got Game 2021 Fall Season. The ladies played their best as some of the highest scoring players of the season executed the floor as well as boards. The following League Awards were as followed:
•Scoring Leader :Shonice Sprouse
• Rebound Leader: Breanna RaShae
• Assist Leader: Ami McNear
• Steals Leader: Carrie Shepard
• League MVP: Tesia Thompson
•Finals MVP: Ashley Shields
Congratulations ladies on all of your efforts and continue to be great in all that you do and in all of your endeavors on as well as off the court!

Make Way For The Future

Aside from helping women CEO Celia Newman has reached another level of success while also grabbing the hands of young girls and pulling them into the future. She Got Game has officially partnered with the Grizzlies Youth Organization to start a Girls She Got Game organization to inspire young women. She Got Game is no stranger to giving back, for they have given over $10,000 into the community to the young professionals. Yet, this time it will be more hands on. The city of Memphis is excited about what is to come due to the mentors of the league being some of the city’s top players who have ever graced the floor. The young women are set to embark upon an awesome journey with these women, all lead by CEO Celia Newman. The blessings keep raining in as She Got League is proving the women run the world. This empowerment will soon be given to our young women. Way to go ladies.

With Open Hands, She Gives

As Drake said “Back To Back!” The league is such an inspiration. This year they gave $2,000 to Lady basketball teams to help with their seasons. Looking at the realness of Memphis, majority of our High Schools are in low poverty areas. This means, usually funding for sports teams are not completely in the budget or prioritized. Yet with She Got Game, the girls have a home. It is tearful to look at the league give thousands of dollars to young individuals to have the equipment they need. Trying to become successful in a low poverty area is challenging, mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. The blessings that the girls received will encourage them to go harder on as well as off the court to make situations better for themselves. As our coaches always said, “you look good, you play good.” Yet with She Got Game, you look Good, You Play BETTER. Congratulations to the young ladies and we look forward to viewing you shine like stars in your upcoming seasons. Big thank you and a shout out to She Got Game, as well as CEO Celia Newman. Continue to do great works in our community.

Bubba Dub, A Rise From Poverty To Features With Pop Smoke, Future, 50 cent, Quavo and A Social Media Comedy Sensation

The Rise From Poverty To Stardom

The Rise From Poverty To Stardom

Bubba Dub, you may see him shared countlessly on your Facebook and Instagram as the social media comedian shares his most personal jokes for the world to see. Bubba Dub expressed to the CWE Network how he wanted to bring the real to comedy, and thats just what he did. From the small town of Alto,Texas the comedian has brought in big views totaling up to 57 million just on YouTube.

Bubba is within of a generation of 24 grandkids, his mother whom was the working parent raised Bubba and his siblings off a $800 monthly check. Their father lived with Lupus and multiple amputations, which hindered him from working to better the family’s condition. Bubba explained how the effects of poverty drove him into depression mentally, especially when he grew to see how living in those conditions shapes him as a father for his children. “I remember going almost two years not buying me anything and buying everything for my children,” he said. He also explained how he wore the same shoes for years just to ensure his children were well taken care of. He also explained how his inspirations came from watching his family stop at 9th grade educations, and neither of his parents graduated from school. Of course, Bubba started his career from acts of courage, gaining confidence from watching his big brother finish college and following in his footsteps, Mr.Dubb has his eyes invested into other realms of education, that was educating the people about the realness of life in a funny way.

Let The Laughs Begin

Dubb loved the college life, yet eventually turned the other cheek to get a job and help raise his children. He worked for Blue Belle Ice Cream the majority of those years, yet eventually left to start his journey of everlasting laughter. He followed his dreams, found his purpose and explained how life was hard yet has been great every since. Upon his climb, he discussed a time he drove three hours to a show that only paid him $50. Yet the courage to even attend the show, makes us view how driven Bubba was to become who he is today. Even through family values, the disappointment of lack of help from his loved ones hurt him dearly. Bubba explained how they did not believe in his dream, he of course had to push for himself and believe in himself. He now feels like “the joke is on you,” as he continues to rise in fame and climb to the top featuring in the late Pop Smoke’s new album and single “Snitchin.”

“Snitchin” ft Pop Smoke, Quavo & Future with skit from Bubba Dub

“I Get Paid To Snitch” Bubba Dub Skit
Rap In Peace Pop Smoke

Your Talent Will Take You Far

Although the skit was directed towards Rapper Tekashi 69, 50 cent still decided to add the talent to the beginning of Track 8 on “Shoot For The Moon Aim For The Stars.” Bubba explained how his talents were a gift from God, and waking up to hear himself on a celebrity playlist was unbelievable, he then knew ever after all of his social media followers that his talent will take him places money will not. That is his name being brought up in rooms with top musical artist in one place, that is indeed nothing but God. Yet all and all, the funds came with the laughter and fun. Not only will Bubba Dub be compensated for his feature, yet his skit will be played over and over again by millions of other individuals around the world, now we only expect the greatest and congratulate Bubba Dub on all of his success. Can we say movie???

MVP Vibe Creates Platform For Musicians, Vocalist and Poets to Market Their Talents And Connect With Fans

Eddie and Amanda Bankston owners of MVP Vibe creative platform.

That’s A Vibe

The vibe we all have been looking for! MVP Vibe (musicians, vocalist, and poets) has created a platform that centers around upcoming artist and creators into one community. MVP Vibe’s App & online network allows artist to post their upcoming projects on a virtual stream, set up like a community not only for creators yet people looking to be involved in new talent. The great part about these vibes is the platform/ community iscompletely free, allowing artist to pick up donations from those who support them, as well as post creative content. Let’s take a better look into the platform, as it has developed additional opportunities that help advertise and promote talent all for the betterment of themselves.

The company established itself in October of 2017 and like majority of businesses, survived through the global pandemic. The witty idea came about when owners Eddie and Amanda Bankston took the love from their marriage and invested it into their hobbies, Amanda being in the business world and Eddie being an artist. They thought, “why not share this love and passion with everyone else?” Then advanced to start drafting information on paper for the development of the musical network. The two together created positive vibes, for Eddie understood the grind and hard work of an independent artist, while Amanda was big on the business marketing side. The two came up with amazing ideas to offer a platform that also added opportunities for independent artists.. One in which was Vibe Sessions, allowing musical artist or anyone apart of the platform to be seen by big time producers and jet eyes in the industry.

Vibe Sessions

Vibe sessions- a way for artist to present themselves in front of a supporting group of individuals with full production crew. These sessions are top tier as they are hosted bi-monthly for luckywinners. The session includes a lively performance that is streamed inside the MVP Vibe platform from a high endproductions studio in Houston, TX. The contest in detail is based off the artist who drive the most engagement on their MVP Vibe profile, and win the Vibe Session production which is ranging roughly around $3,000 value. Not to mention, this might just be the big break for the artist, they are in the room with individuals who could connect them to the right people in the industry or just might be the right people in the industry that they should connect with. Talk about vibes, yet you must work hard on that content and boost your engagement so you can show them that you are the vibe. Can I get a Vibe Check?

Vibe Check

The next opportunity of exposure is Vibe Check. “Vibe Check”is a detailed interview of the artist on MVP Vibe platform. These individuals are randomly selected and are interviewed about their upcoming projects and careers. The platform chooses the creatives within a particular deadline to be part of the show. You can check out these interviews inside the MVP Vibe’s platform.

Statistics

Now let’s get to the fun stuff of how this program works, statistics. These numbers are fairly important. Due to creators wanting to know who is viewing their content is where exactly is it going. Number in the marketing world are just as vital when presenting platforms similar to MVP Vibe, and as a newly developed App & website their statistics are quite impressive. The amount of time users are spending on the platform is 12 times more than another platform in their category. Not to mention how the content is exposed when posting. Unlike Facebook and Instagram, this platform helps creators directly establish an audience by keeping their content posted for all to see, and not just by who is getting the most engagement. This is so everyone who views the streams are very likely to see who you are. Then we lead into the value of monetization and how money flows through this system. In comparison to Spotify and other streaming networks you will make an average of 0.12 cents per stream, that means an individual has to stream over 90,000 plays to make at least $1,080 within that streaming period. That is a massive number of streams. Yet with MVP Vibe it is different, the network takes all precaution when it comes to their creators, the platform is fully catered to them by the way. With this being said, creators and make way more than 0.12 cent per stream, while supporters and donate money to them as they watch their content videos and listen to their music. What an awesome deal, so it is set as this, people come listen to your music, you build a fan base, then generous will pay you way more than 0.12 cents a stream and have a chance to win perks and become the artist you’ve always wanted to be. Yet it’s not only up to them, its up to you as well. You must also put in the work, to get the word out there for yourself through your brilliant projects and build a platform of creativity and professionalism. MVP Vibe is just here to help, yet starting you off as the creator you have always wanted to be.

Joining The Vibe

So how do you becoming involved in something so amazing, that is filled with tons of new music? You create a profile of course. The App and website is easy to navigate. Black Girl Magic: Dr.April Carter Set To Change The Narrative on African American Health Through Infrared and HOTWORX Franchises

The Hospitalist with A Plan Aside From Her Awesome Career

Changing The Narrative In African American Health

Growing up in the typical African American family means more to us culture wise than anything before. We take pride in our family gatherings, traditions and conversations. Truthfully, we love our favorite cousins as well as visiting grandma on each and every holiday. Yet one thing that kept us more close knit than any other object on earth is food. Our grandmother’s undying recipes at that, because no one else makes it like her we settled. Although this was how we were raised, and the chicken, candid yams as well as black eye peas remind us of where we are from through classical conditioning, the heart of the matter has also caused issues within our communities. With no doubts, we love our soul foods, yet do these foods love our bodies? Dr.April Carter expressed this as she is a hospitalist who works in multiple regions and hospitals in America. If anyone has not seen what health tolls have done to our communities she is indeed one to speak on these issues with, not just from books but life experiences as well.

The Behaviors and Cultures of Eating and How It Affects Communities

“I grew up in a household that had 3 carbs on one plate for dinner, and meat every night,” said Dr.Carter as she explained her childhood and the health conscious attitudes she has developed from seeing her family deal with a multitude of body dysfunctions and illness contracted from the habits of cultural eating lifestyles. “There are a multitude of illness I seen in my family, from diabetes to high blood pressure and heart issues,” she said and all were a result of eating as well as exercise behaviors. Due to cultural situations, the subconscious mind is entitled to the environmental habits developed in us from children. Therefore some behaviors come almost natural because it is accepted within our communities. African American communities and populations are one of the most uneducated when it comes to eating as well as exercise habits. This results in a spike in diabetes diagnostics and high blood pressure cases. As well as a multitude of other illnesses. Yet if our communities and leaders were fully educated on how these habits affect our lives, the narrative of African American families could change. Dr.April Carter took upon this narrative by becoming a change agent as well as franchise owner of 4 soon to open Hot Wroxs under her name, and she is including the emphasis on infrared services. Who’s better to support this narrative than a black doctor and leader of our on. We need more like her.

What is Infrared?

According to Mayo Clinic several studies have looked at using infrared saunas in the treatment of chronic health problems, such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, headache, type 2 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, and found some evidence of benefit. This is throughly why targeted communities should become more invested into the HotWrox franchise. Becoming a member of the studio lead by people like Dr.Carter sets these individuals in good hands from research based practices. Not only does it increases internal health yet also helps with external factors including reducing excess weight gain in members if exercise practices are continued. Investing in these studios fits exactly to what the doctor her self is trying to present to target communities who deal with these difficulties yet most importantly everyone.
